Whitehall, N.Y. - Anthony C. Cardamone, Jr. 77, a resident of Whitehall, passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2026 at the Capstone Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing in Amsterdam following a long illness.
Born on April 28, 1948, to Helen and Anthony C. Cardamone Sr. of Blue Point, NY, Anthony Cardamone Jr, was affectionately known by his family as Ant and by his friends as Tony. A graduate of James Wilson Young High School in Bayport, NY, he was a three-sport varsity athlete, excelling in soccer, basketball and track. He attended SUNY Potsdam, where he played varsity soccer.
In his early career, he traveled the world as a crew member of an oceanographic research vessel out of Woods Hole, MA. He was a dockmaster in Montauk and the Florida Keys, a stone mason, a bayman and an auctioneer, to name just a few of his varied professions. A successful and creative entrepreneur, he ran a business in Sayville NY, called the Junk Orphanage, a limousine service in Montauk and a party bus service on Long Island. He moved to Whitehall, NY in 2004, where he opened Canal Side Coffee, which became a popular meeting place for local residents to gather, grab a coffee or homemade soup, play games and show off their karaoke skills.
Anthony was devoted to family and friends alike. He had a generous nature and gave freely to those in need. Although he suffered with much pain as his health declined over the last few years, he was always the optimist, making plans for the future and reminiscing about the many good friends he met along his colorful and adventurous journey through this life. Wishing him smooth sailing in the afterlife. He will be missed.
Anthony is predeceased by his wife, Bonnie (McKenzie) Cardamone.
He is survived by his son Kip Cardamone, grandchildren Derek and McKenzie Cardamone, and sisters Judi Borowski and Rosemary Leonetti.
Anthony’s request was that there be no calling hours or services at this time. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of the Michael G. Angiolillo Funeral Home, 210 Broadway, Whitehall, N.Y.
The family suggests that memorial contributions take the form of donations in Anthony’s memory to either the Whitehall Chamber of Commerce or to the Skeene Mannor.
