Fort Ann - Gene R. Sherwood, Sr., ” Pa”, 76 of Clay Hill Rd passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Saturday, May 9th, 2026.
Born on April 16, 1950, in Glens Falls, son of George & Delia (Rogers) Sherwood.
Gene worked as a grader operator at Fort Ann Highway Department, where he eventually retired to be with his late wife, and forever soul mate, Sheila Sherwood. He is predeceased by his parents, siblings, George, Shirley, Joanie, Donny, Betty, and Rodney. A late son-in-law, Robert (Bob) Rozell.
Survivors include his three children, Sherry (Kevin), Gene “Jr” (April), Heather (Brian), Son-in-law, Jr. Parker.
Grandchildren, Jordan (Kyle), Zachery (Maegan), Jenessa (Paul), Anthony, Jaydah (Logan), Amanda, James (Tommilynn), Autumn Rae, Kevin, Brooke, Chloe and Alana,
Great-grandchildren, Justice, Macie, Brayton, Winston. Several nieces, nephews & cousins.
His grandchildren and great grandchildren were the light of his life, alongside his best friend, Rugar. Also, a special friend Laurie Beadleston.
Gene was a man of many words, loving, kind, & the type to help whoever was in need. Gene enjoyed hunting, fishing, and most of all spending time with his family. He enjoyed going to Fort Ann Superstop to meet up with “the guys” and harass the girls, especially Brenda every morning. There was never a good-bye, always “love ya babe~see ya later!
The family would like to thank Richard Bain for all his kindness & compassion, care & love he shared with Pa, by being by his side until the very end, along with his “Pain in ass” granddaughter Jenessa who rearranged her life the past few months for her pa.
Also special thanks to other caregivers that provided to Pa.
“To Know Pa, was to love him.”
The family will carry on his memory for a lifetime but finds peace in knowing he is reunited with the love of his life, Sheila.
At Pa’s request, there will be no calling hours. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 30th from 1 pm to 4 pm at the Fort Ann Fire House. Bu rial will be announced at a later date.
