IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Henry R.
Chittenden
March 10, 1950 – May 29, 2025
Henry R. Chittenden passed away Thursday, May 29th at The Pines in Rutland Vermont. He is now able to rest peacefully and reunite with his wife Sharon who passed away in August of 2021. Henry was born in 1950 in Granville, NY. He graduated from Whitehall High school in 1969. In high school is where he met his wife Sharon, and they had been together ever since. Henry was born and raised on his father's farm which was then left to him to continue to run. He spent most of his life doing what he knew and being around what he loved, which was animals. He taught many farmhands how to have a great work ethic. He didn't mess around. If you were asked to do something you were expected to do it and do it right. With music blaring and cows milking, day in and day out in his barn or out in a field, he would be. It wasn't until 2003 when there was a house fire, and his diabetes took a toll on him where he ended up selling his cows and his farm. Henry did continue to hay fields until his sight and his ability to get up on a tractor were no more. Henry had a passion for old cars, watching westerns, his animals, and football once his daily chores were done. The highlight of his year was watching every Superbowl Sunday with his grandson Michael. He and Michael were constantly talking about football ever since Michael starting to learn the sport.
Henry was pre-deceased by his brother LeRoy (Bunk) Chittenden and his sister Raeanne Turner. Along with his brother-in-law's John and Andrew Kasuba. Henry is survived by his 2 children Brandon Henry Chittenden of Whitehall and a daughter Dawn Marie Usher (Frank) also of Whitehall. A sister-in-law Penny Socha (Ron) of CT and 2 brothers-in-laws Stanley Kasuba (Patty) of Whitehall and Charlie Kasuba. He had 5 grandchildren, Rhiannon Mallory (Brian), Michael, Melanie, Lucas Vandenburgh, and a step granddaughter Brianna Usher. He also had 2 great grandchildren Aubrey and Maddison, several nieces, nephews, and cousins as well.
Henry's family would like to thank everyone who ever helped with his care in the last few years. A special thank you to his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Stanley and Patty Kasuba as they were always "on call" for when we needed a hand no matter what time it was. Also, a special thank you to The Pines staff, 2nd floor crew in Rutland VT who went above and beyond to make sure his final days with us were as pain free as possible. The care they provided was more than we could have imagined and very much appreciated.
Per Henry's request there will be no service or calling hours. He would just like to have his ashes spread on his property next to his wife and all his animals.
A small celebration of life may be held in August of this year.
