Obituary

Whitehall, NY – Jean Mae (Toben) Winn, 86, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving husband and eldest daughter on Saturday, December 26, 2015 following a long illness. She was born on May 12, 1929 in Whitehall, N.Y., the daughter of the late Clayton Tobin and Frances (Sears) Toben. Jean attended Whitehall High School graduating in 1946.  She then attended collage at Skidmore College, Glens Falls Division and Castleton State College in Castleton, VT. Prior to her marriage to her husband, she was employed as a clerk for Sach's Jewelry Store in Whitehall, a reporter for "The Post Star" and a stenographer for Great Meadow Correctional Facility in Comstock. Jean was united in marriage to Thomas D. Winn in the winter of 1955 and had 60 wonderful years together as a house wife and homemaker at the time of her death. She and Tom always looked forward to their annual vacations to Rye Beach, N.H. and upon Tom's retirement, they purchased a home in Ft. Lauderdale, Fl. where they enjoyed spending each winter there for more than 20 years.  She always enjoyed attending her daughter's recitals, pageants, parades and athletic events. Jean enjoyed reading, where she patronized the Isaac C. Griswold Library in Whitehall regularly. She also enjoyed movies, folk music especially when her husband Tom sang it, animals since her childhood, watching and attending the Miami Heat professional N.B.A. basketball games. Her other interests included the study of psychology, and the Spanish culture and language which she spoke fluently. Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her brother William Toben. Survivors include her loving husband, Thomas D. Winn of Whitehall, her two daughters, Jeanine Winn of Whitehall, and Liza Ann Gregg and her husband Jeffrey of Apex, N.C. and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Whitehall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jean's name can be made to the Isaac C. Griswold Library, 12 William St. Whitehall, N.Y. 12887. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of the Michael G. Angiolillo Funeral Home, 210 Broadway, Whitehall, N.Y.
