Obituary

Whitehall – Joyce M. (Dragon) Therrien, 83, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 24, 2014 at Glens Falls Hospital with her family by her side.

She was born on July 1, 1931 in Plattsburg, N.Y. the daughter of the late Victor N. Dragon and Grace M. (Whalen) Dragon.

Joyce was a communicant of Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church and a former communicant of Our Lady of Angels Roman Catholic Church of Whitehall. She was a graduate of Whitehall High School.

She was a member of the Rural Charity Club and Rosary Society of Our Lady of Angels Church in Whitehall and a member of the Whitehall Grange.

Joyce will always be remembered for her beautifully decorated birthday and wedding cakes. She had a great sense of humor and always enjoyed a good joke. Joyce's strength and determination to overcome many challenges in her lifetime are truly an inspiration to all who knew her. Her smile and laughter will be greatly missed.

Joyce was employed by Whitehall Central School as a Teacher's Aide and part time clerical support for several years. She continued her working career at the Washington County Office for the Aging for twelve years as a secretary and enjoyed her daily contact with many seniors throughout Washington County.

She and her husband Raymond L. Therrien were united in marriage on February 23, 1952 at Our Lady of Angels Roman Catholic Church in Whitehall. He predeceased her on December 11, 2012.

Besides her parents and her husband, Raymond L. Therrien, she is predeceased by her brother, H. James Dragon.

Survivors include her children, Dan M. and his wife Sandy Therrien of Middle Granville, Susan A. Harke and her husband Paul of Argyle, David E. Therrien of Whitehall, Matthew J. Therrien and his wife Shirley of Johnstown, N.Y. and Mark R. Therrien and his wife Christine of Johnstown, N.Y., one sister-in-law; Ida Carlton of Whitehall, 10 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church, Skene Street, Whitehall, with Reverend Rendell Torres, pastor officiating. A Rite of Committal will follow in Greenmount Cemetery, Whitehall. Following the Committal services, the family would like to invite everyone to join them in the continuation of the celebration of Joyce's life in Our Lady of Hope Church Hall.

Friends may call on the family from 4 to 7 pm on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at the Michael G. Angiolillo Funeral Home, 210 Broadway, Whitehall, N.Y.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made in Joyce's memory to the Whitehall Library, 12 Williams Street, Whitehall, N.Y. 12887, or the Glens Falls Association for the Blind, 144 Ridge Street, Glens Falls, N.Y. 12801. Both services were very helpful and supportive to Joyce while macular degeneration stole her vision later in life.

The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Glens Falls Hospital Intensive care Unit for their compassionate care and dedication to quality health care during her extended time in ICU.
