Whitehall - Lenora Deckert Purdy, 79, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at Rutland Regional Medical Center in Rutland, Vermont following a brief illness.

She was born on September 15, 1933 in Beacon, N.Y., the daughter of Joseph and Babette (Stich) Deckert.

Lenora was a graduate of Beacon High School.

She and her husband, Robert Ackley Purdy were united in marriage on February 14, 1954.   They moved around New York State as Robert's profession as a state trooper transferred him to several barracks.  They settled in Whitehall in 1955.

Nora worked as a teaching assistant at the Whitehall Elementary School in Whitehall for a time. Following Robert's retirement, he went into the insurance business, the Edward J. Williams Insurance Company in Whitehall.  Lenora worked as a secretary for her husband. She especially enjoyed being a homemaker, caring for her husband and family.

Lenora was a member of the Whitehall Grange.  She was a Brownie, Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader.  She taught Sunday school for the Whitehall United Methodist Church and the Grace Baptist Church in Whitehall, where she was a charter member.  She enjoyed sewing, cooking, and traveling with her husband and daughter Keni in their motor home.

Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her daughter, Keni Purdy who passed away on April 16, 2012, and two granddaughters, Tani and Janae Purdy.

She is survived by her loving husband, Robert A. Purdy of Whitehall, one son, Robert E. Purdy and his wife Nancy of Spokane, Wash., three daughters, Robin Manell and her husband Robert of Hampton, N.Y., Karyn Ferguson and her husband Wayne, and Jean Beardsley and her husband Tim, of Whitehall. One brother, Manfred Deckert and his wife Gretel of Tallahassee, Fla., three grandsons, Adam Purdy, Thomas Manell and Joseph Ferguson, two nieces and several cousins.

A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 pm on Sunday, June 23, 2013 at the Grace Baptist Church, 12 Queen Street, Whitehall with Pastor Paul Shepherd officiating.

Burial will be private in Greenmount Cemetery, Whitehall at the convenience of the family.

The family suggests that memorial contributions in Lenora's memory be given to the Skenesborough Emergency Squad, P.O. Box 333, Whitehall, N.Y.  12887.
