Whitehall and Queensbury - Marshall C. Gordon, 78, passed Friday, July 5th, 2013 after a long, courageous battle with MDS/Leukemia at Glens Falls Hospital with his wife and children at his side.
He was born February 9, 1935 in Whitehall, New York to William and Ruth (Pike) Gordon. His mother died when he was 7 days old. He was raised by his aunt and uncle, Harry and Anna (Pike) Leggett.
Marshall attended school in Whitehall and received his GED in 1956.
He served in the US Army as an M.P. and served in Germany in the 1950s. He was also a member of the National Guard. He worked various jobs including working on tug boats, as a prison guard, and at Sandy Hill where he did an apprenticeship and graduated as a class A machinist. He worked at Finch Pruyn for 22 years as a machinist and retired in 1998.
Marshall was a devoted husband and father. He loved to travel and had been to many places in US and Canada. He was a lover of animals, his hobby was woodworking, and he was a loyal New York Yankee and Giants fan. He was a #1 handyman. He was a patriot through and through and also a man of principles. He also had a great sense of humor and a dry wit.
He married Betty J. Bader on May 5, 1957 and she passed on July 10, 1989 after 32 years of marriage and eight children. He married his present wife Sally K. (aka SaraKaty) Gordon on February 2, 2009 in Bonita Springs Florida. He and his "S.O." had many years as best friends and travelers prior to their marriage.
He was a life member and former Chaplain of the Whitehall Elks Lodge #1491, B.P.O.E. of Whitehall, a life member of the American Legion #83 of Whitehall, and a Charter Member of the Whitehall Fire Company.
Marshall was predeceased by his first wife Betty, his parents, his aunt and uncle who raised him; his brothers, Willard, Robert, Clifford, Max, and Russell. As well as his sister, Evelyn Leggett and two sons-in-laws, Tim Stewart and Robert Juckett, and also his two special pets, Biskit and Ivy.
Surviving him are his wife Sally K. Gordon of Queensbury; his two sons, Kyle M. Gordon (Deb) of Granville and Korey M. J. Gordon (Lisa) of St. Johnsbury, Vermont; his six daughters, Lori A. Juckett, of Whitehall, Marsha A. Ross (Angelo) of Whitehall, Wendy A. Stewart (Gary) of Cuttingsville, Vermont, Beth A. Lavin (Richard) of Whitehall, Stephanie A. LaChapelle (Richard) of Whitehall, Stacy A. Beebe (Shan) of Whitehall; step-children, Joseph P. Gross of Queensbury and Dawn H. LeGere (Carl) of Glenville.
In addition, there are eighteen grandchildren and five great grand children; Jennifer Pratt (Eric) and their daughters Haylee and Emylee, Matthew Lavin (Brandon), Zachary Lavin and daughter Lily, Nicholas Ross, Elizabeth Ross, Michel Juckett (Henry) and sons Hayden and Jaxson, Adam and Abby Gordon, Colby and Logan LaChapelle, Shan and Garrett Beebe, Brody and Bryce Gordon. Step-grandchildren; Kevin and Kyle Gross and Spencer and Katie LeGere.
Also surviving him are his sisters, Ruth (Sally) Gallagher of Whitehall, Winifred (Jane) Gordon of Queensbury, Harriet Jones of South Glens Falls, and Ruth Borden of Huletts Landing. Brothers Paul Gordon of Whitehall, and Gene Gordon of Hunter Mountain; his mother-in-law, Helen Sullivan of Queensbury; and many nieces and nephews and cousins.
The family wants to thank Dr. Mark Hoffman and all the of staff at Charles R. Wood Cancer Center, Tower 2 and the Fusion Center at Glens Falls hospital for all their wonderful care and attention.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, July 9th, 2013 at Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church, Skene Street, Whitehall with Reverend Rendell Torres, pastor officiating. Burial will follow in the Neddo Street Cemetery, Whitehall with full military honors.
There will be a reception following the burial at the Whitehall Elks Lodge on North Williams Street in Whitehall to continue the celebration of Marshall's life.
Friends may call on the family on Monday, July 8th 2013 from 4 to 8 pm at the Michael G. Angiolillo Funeral Home, 210 Broadway, Whitehall. The members of the American Legion Post #83 will meet at the funeral home on Monday Evening at 7:00 pm and the members of the Whitehall Elks Lodge #1491, B.P.O.E. will conduct a Lodge of Sorrow at the funeral home at 7:30 pm on Monday evening.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Marshall's memory to the C. R. Wood Cancer Center at Glens Falls Hospital, 102 Park Street, Glens Falls, N.Y. 12801.
