Obituary

Granville, - Pliny Hughes Williams, 73, passed away on April 10, 2014 in his home with his loving children and grandchildren whom he adored by his side.

He was born on March 14, 1941 in Granville, NY, son of the late Viviann M. (Hughes) and Edward W. Williams Sr.

Pliny attended Granville High School before enlisting in the Army and serving in Germany. He travelled extensively before returning to Granville in the 1970s where he married the late Donna (Bruce) Williams on May 31, 1975. They raised three daughters in Granville surrounded by the rolling foothills that he said couldn't be matched in all his travels. A hard worker from a boy, Pliny held many jobs ranging from Post Star deliverer, quarryman, typesetter  to substance abuse counselor. Before retiring, he spent 15 years as an offset pressman at Daemon Printing in West Rutland. He also gave back to the community, setting up a Tuesday night twelve step meeting in Granville that runs to this day.

In his spare time, Pliny enjoyed reading, woodworking, genealogy, following current events, cruising in his car, spending time with his children and grandchildren, and taking things one day at a time. Besides his wife and parents, Pliny was predeceased by a brother Yogi (Edward W. Jr.) Williams and his very special dog, Pal.

Pliny is survived by four daughters, Lynn Cook of Bangor Maine, Viviann Campbell and husband Colin of Hertford, England, Megan Williams and husband Tim of Granville, Gwen McCloud and husband Mark of Woodleaf, NC, and a son James Paddock of Gansvoort. He was also survived by fourteen grandchildren: Tyler, Andy, Matt, Derrick, Jordan, Ryan, Patty, Kara, Zach, Kylie, Logan, Allie, Chris, and Cliff.

A funeral service will be held at 4:00 pm on Sunday, April 13, 2014 at the Peniel Presbyterian Church, Quaker Street, Granville, with Reverend Jerry McKinney, pastor officiating.

Friends may call at the church from 2:00 pm until the time of the services.

A reception will follow the services at the Granville Engine and Hose Fire Department, West Main Street and Quaker Street, Granville.
