Whitehall - Raymond L. Therrien, 86, of Whitehall, passed away on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at Glens Falls Hospital following a very brief illness.
Raymond was born on March 14, 1926 in Whitehall, the son of the late Merril Therrien and Lousia (Tatro) Therrien.
Raymond attended school in Whitehall. He is an honorary member of the Hills Pond-Emerald Lake Property Owners Association in Hampton, NY where he spent many enjoyable years with friends and family.
He enlisted into the United States Navy in 1944 and was stationed on the U.S.S. Sierra Destroyer Tender in the Pacific Ocean during W.W. II as a Machinist's Mate Third Class. He was discharged in 1946.
Raymond was a member of the International Brick Layers Union, Local #64 in Glens Falls. He was also a self employed brick mason for many years.
He and his wife, Joyce M. (Dragon) Therrien were united in marriage at Our Lady of Angels Roman Catholic Church in Whitehall on February 23, 1952 and celebrated their 60th anniversary this year.
In his early years, Raymond loved driving stock cars in the area with his brothers; Roddy and Francis, snowmobiling with his friends and family, taking rides on his red Honda, working in his flower and rose garden, working in his garage, hunting, and spending time with his family.
Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his brothers; Clarence, Earl, Francis, Eugene, Rodman, Clayton, and Floyd Therrien and his sister; Thelma Choates.
Survivors include his wife; Joyce M. Therrien of Whitehall, his children; Dan M. and Sandy Therrien of Middle Granville, Susan A. Harke and her husband Paul of Argyle, David E. Therrien of Whitehall, Matthew J. Therrien and his wife Shirley of Johnstown, N.Y. and Mark R. Therrien and his wife Christine of Johnstown, N.Y., one sister; Ida Carlton of Whitehall, 10 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins and a special family friend, Karen Beckwith.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at the Michael G. Angiolillo Funeral Home, 210 Broadway, Whitehall, N.Y. with Reverend Sharon Sauer, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Whitehall officiating.
Family and friends may call from 12:00 noon until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home. The family would also like to extend a sincere thank you to Dr. Sponzo and his staff at the Glens Falls Hospital for their compassionate and professional support.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made in Raymond's memory to either the Skenesborough Emergency Squad, P.O. Box 333, Whitehall, N.Y. 12887, or to a charity of one's choice.
