Queensbury and Whitehall - Ruth E. LeRoy, formally of Whitehall and Hulett's Landing, passed away June 7, 2017 at Glens Falls, NY at the age of 87.
Ruth graduated from Whitehall High School, second in her class in 1947. She had a knack for dates and would be the one to go to for any of the birth dates of the 54 grandchildren. She loved her family, especially the years on Lake George running LeRoy's Restaurant & Marina. There were many long winter nights at Hulett's, sitting around the table, seeing who could out bid who at pinochle. She enjoyed history, reading and was a great teller of stories.
Her real passion through the years was with the Order of Eastern Star. She was a 67 year member and belonged to Skenesborough Chapter and Slate Valley Chapter. She held many position including Matron, past State Officer, District Deputy Grand Matron and Grand Representative to the State of New Hampshire.
She is predeceased by her husband Curt LeRoy, son Terry J. (Fred) LeRoy and parents Herman and Lila Benjamin.
Survivors include her sons, Curtis H. LeRoy (Cathy), Queensbury and Kenneth R. LeRoy (Sheri), Katy, TX; and daughters, Mary Ann Kinne (Scott), Endwell, NY, Janet E. Payne, Queensbury, Tamara I. Williams (Ron), Columbus, GA, Sue Ellen VanCleave (Robert) and Helen P. Tobias (Imre), Queensbury, 22 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Janice Winters of Whitehall and her Benjamin family, Leslie, whom she thought of as a brother, Donald, Jane and Robert. Her LeRoy family, Beverly "Bobbie and James "Bubby" Irick and niece Sandra Edmonds Ryan.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 pm on Saturday, June 10th at the Michael G. Angiolillo Funeral Home, 210 Broadway, Whitehall, NY.
A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, June 11 th at 1:00 pm. The Order of Eastern Star will conduct a Memorial Service at the conclusion of the services. Burial will follow in Clemons Cemetery, Clemons, N.Y.
The family suggests that memorial contributions in her memory be made to the Order of the Eastern Star Home, 8920 State Route 69, P.O. Box 959, Oriskany, N.Y. 13424
