WHITEHALL — Robert R. Ballard Sr., 65, of Whitehall passed away peacefully Sunday, May 4, 2014, at Glens Falls Hospital with his family by his side following a long illness.

He was born Jan. 20, 1949, in Hampton, the son of the late John Printy and Flora (Wescott) Printy.

Robert worked for several slate quarries in the area for many years. He enjoyed watching old Western movies and TV shows especially “Gun Smoke” and “Bonanza.” He also enjoyed testing his luck with scratch-off lottery tickets.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Kenneth Ballard.

Survivors include one son, Robert R. Ballard Jr. of Whitehall; a daughter, Stephanie Loomis and her husband, John, of Granville; a daughter-in-law, Marie Ballard of Whitehall; five grandchildren, Tamika Ballard and Dominic Francis Ballard of Whitehall, Ben Andrews of Granville and Peter and Jordon Penor of Granville; he is also survived by one brother, John Printy and his wife, Ellen, of Whitehall; six sisters, Linda M. Holcomb of Hampton, Eileen Francis and her husband, Rod, of Hartford, Amy Phipps of Chestnut, Illinois, Dorothy Beattie of Salam, Donna Badgewick of Greensboro, Vermont and Trudy Pedro and her husband, Reese, of Fair Haven, Vermont and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

At Robert’s request, his wishes were that there be no services. Burial will be private and at the convenience of his family.

The family suggests memorial contributions in Robert’s memory be made to the Skenesborough Emergency Squad, P.O. Box 133, Whitehall, NY 12887.
